Made In Melburn - Gig Review

Yo yo!

Anyone get around to checking out Made in Melburn on Friday night? It was a pretty fun night ay, and I must make note of the exceptional onstage performances by Illy, Psyde Projects, Diafrix, Polo Club and Kuya. There was a Producers Lounge going off all night too and I found myself spending most of my time in there. The smoke machines were at full ball but the stage looked mad. A straight up awesome night. Im impressed!
As usual, I took a few snaps for those of you who were unable to attend. Although I only managed to get some of Illy and a blurry one of Psyde Projects and some break dancing pics....not sure how this happened. Pretty lame pics so, my apologies!

Delta - The Order of Melbourne

On Saturday night I went to check out Delta at The Order of Melbourne. He was playing a DJ set with Arks and Ed Seven vs Inkswel were passing out their mixtape.
The night was off to a good start. The place started to get pretty packed and then apparently some dudes got into a fight outside the venue, cops got involved and they used 2 cans of capsicum spray on them. It ended up wofting up the stairs into the bar. The place was empty before I realised why my lungs were burning. Everyone was crowded outside coughing and annoyed. Some girl got the spray in her eyes and she was on the ground in extreme agony. Apparently a girl hit a cop too. Geeeez what a night.
Pretty disappointing. Not that it was any one of the organisers faults.
Lucky it was a free event otherwise a lot of people would be pissed.

Thundamentals Review on OHH

Yo!
Here is the Thundamentals review I wrote for OzHipHop.com

Photobucket

Thundamentals “My Lady” Tour

Label: Obese Records

Thundamentals are sure ones to check out. The gig was held at the Northcote Social Club Hotel - usually known for its indie rock/hippy vibe –MC Jeswon, MC Tuka and DJ Morgs had the room filled with crazy Hip Hop fans! Coming all the way out from Blue Mountains, NSW, for the ‘My Lady’ tour, the crew did not disappoint.

I was quite surprised at how much energy they showed. It was such a laidback atmosphere; they really made you feel like you were in their living room, chilling enjoying a few beers. The onstage banter was highly entertaining. Us lucky viewers even got a chance to hear them freestyle. They were very in tune with the crowd. The vibe they gave off was amazing and they played every song with straight up dedication.

The crowd was going nuts as they continued through a rad set list, which included tracks like ‘I HIP HOP’, ‘Serial Illa’, ‘T.H.U.N.A’, ‘Move It Up’, ‘My Favourite Song’, ‘Tardis Take Off’. Personally my favourite tracks they played would have to be ‘Bad Man’ and ‘My Lady’. These songs went off!

Seth Sentry was the support act and while he was on, he owned the stage. This guy has an incredible flow. With an insane line up with tracks like ‘The Waitress Song’, ‘Strange Lot’, ‘Simple Game’ and ‘Warm Winter’, he was sure to keep the crowd entertained. The highlighted track was the well known song ’Train Catcher’. This young MC’s quirky humour really worked with the crowd. Seth Sentry is definitely one talented artist, so big ups to him and his dj Steve Mowat (aka DJ Matik) for a great show.

Seth Sentry’s album ‘The Waiter Minute EP’ is in stores now so be sure to get your hands on a copy or check him out on Myspace for tour dates near you.
Thundamentals bring an exciting new vibe to the hip hop scene. Their style is a mix of Latin, Soul, Reggae, psychedelic with a touch of old school. Having shared the stage with artists like Z-Trip, Jungle Brothers and Swollen Members, how could they not be awesome!

Thundamentals album – Sleeping on your style’ came out about 6 months ago and since its release hip hop lovers can’t get enough of them. Be sure to keep an eye on these guys on Myspace and check out their Facebook page to stay in tune.

Live Freestyles - Fatty Phew, Luke Mac, Raven and Maundz
Man, I LOVE Melbourne!

Coptic Soldier

Photobucket

Born and raised one of Sydneys finest MCs is none other than Luke Girgis aka Coptic Soldier. With tracks like 'Burn Churches,' this young MC shows amazing talent and rhymes that will make your head spin. Luke really brings out the creative side of Australian Hip Hop and always leaves the listeners wanting more!
Having toured the country supporting Aussie artists such as Bliss n Eso, Pegz, The Funkoars, The Herd, Drapht, Muph and Plutonic, Phrase and more, Coptic Soldier has made a name supporting international artists Method Man and Redman, De La Soul and Planet Asia.
Phatchance and Coptic Soldier toured around Australia performing at sold out shows to promote the album 'Inkstains' with great success.
At the same time as working on his album, Luke is busy with his management company - 'The Girgis Circus.'
His company manages MCs such as Phatchance, Torcha & B-Don, A Broken Silence, Mind Over Matter, Elgen and Johnny Utah and Australian pop artist HR King. Things are really looking up for Coptic Soldier and his crew.

I was lucky enough to snag an interview with this fine fellow.

What song are you most proud of and why?

Without a doubt “Sherbrook”. The effect it has had on the kids we wrote the song about has been incredibly moving. Telling their story was an unreal experience.

How long have you and Chance been collaborating and how did this come about?

About four years now. I sent him one of the first tracks I recorded on a $5 mic and he invited me round to his house to record it properly. He has taken me under his wing and truly shown me the ropes from day one. I owe a lot to that man!

What inspired you to write your track 'Burn Churches?'

I think Christianity has such a bad name at the moment, and it is no one else’s fault but us Christians and the church themselves. It was just a big vent for me on how we turned something so beautiful into something perceived as so judgmental. Working with Mac Lethal on the track really showed an atheist perspective on the issue.

Which is the most fun show you have performed so far?

As a headliner, definitely the face paint party we hosted in Sydney for Phatchance's album launch. The vibe and energy was so awesome! As a support, I will never forget the Bliss n Eso leg of the “Flying Colours” tour in Adelaide – life changing experience.

In the future, who would you like to work with?

Well, I haven’t really asked them yet, but a big dream of mine would be to work with Bliss n Eso. Maybe one day!

Illy - Pictures Tour

Photobucket

Yo my fellow hip hoppers,

So I dropped by Revolver on Saturday night to check out Illy. Honestly, in my opinion the dude is a sick MC, he has wicked rhymes and a smooth flow. I was lovin' the vibe of the crowd. The place got pretty packed out so i'm sure he would have been stoaked about the turn out. With a mad track list which included songs like 'My Way', 'Long Story Short' and of course 'Pictures,' he sent the crowd into full ball.

Tys was one of the support acts. He was without a DJ on the night but he still rocked it! I can always count on Tys to never disappoint.

BBS Crew was the other support act. They are amazing performers and loads of fun to watch. Check them out on their Myspace page -

Apart from the delay at the beginning of the night I had a good time and was highly entertained.
Illy is performing his pictures tour all over Australia so head to his myspace page to check out the tour dates near you. Illy Al Murray Motha F*Ker

Sorry for the crappy, small pics. I'm trying to figure out how to change it.
Stay tuned my party people.
