Now we all know Surreal is the next big thing in aussie hip hop. Coming back at us as a solo artist after years of silence with his track 'Hungry,' we are all excited to see what happens next with this MC.
Surreal Biography
Growing up in the breeding ground of raw hip hop known as the South East of Melbourne, Surreal first discovered his love of Hip Hop at the tender age of 11 after watching the inspirational movie Beat Street. As a child, Surreal always found joy in break dancing, writing, graffiti and MCing. He was mainly influenced by artists such as Biggie, Michael Jackson, Talib Kweli, Common, 2Pac, Sole Theta, JRed, DJ Peril, DJ Cargo and various Soul and RnB artists for example Ekykah Badu, D-Angelo and Black Street.Surreal spent his youth developing his rapping skills and over the years has become a respected songwriter and performer. After countless ciphers and battles in the street, Surreal took it one step further and entered himself into local battle competitions. After winning an outstanding amount of battles, he was quick to gain respect in the eyes of onlookers. He began representing his home country and earning the Victorian title in 2004 for ‘Australian Heats’ while gaining a spot in the Australian team for the event ‘Battle for Supremacy,’ Australia vs. New Zealand two years in a row.
In 2005, Surreal featured on the track ‘It’s About to Blow’ with DJ Peril, which spent over 30 weeks on the Aria Charts and gaining the number 1 video clip on MTV and Channel V. Surreal is very much in high demand having been interviewed on the Triple J Hip Hop show, Nova 100, Triple R, Fox FM, PBS and Syn FM.
The young artist has toured the country playing at many live venues supporting local and many well known international acts such as Busta Rhymes, Z Trip, DMX, Akon, Pitbull, Talib Kweli and Jean Grae while demonstrating his explosive stage presence. Whether he is performing at festivals or underground hip hop events this amazing MC has a talent so fierce and diverse that wherever he is, the crowd can’t seem to keep their eyes off him.
Surreal has finally broken his silence after four years by releasing his first solo track ‘Hungry’ to give people a taste of what to expect. He has released a 2010 Solo Sampler CD which demonstrates his individuality as a realist with untamed lyrics and outstanding songwriting ability. Since he has been back in the scene, he has featured with Torcha and Illy on the track ‘Road Rage’ and will no doubt surprise the nation with his witty lyrics.
Currently, the promising solo artist is working on his debut solo album which is featuring some exciting international acts and is set to be released in 2010.
Finally we have word of an upcoming show for Surreal titled "Surreal 2010 Album Sampler." This will be dope as hell! With a mad line-up including dudes like Nymphlow, DJ Kay Z, DJ Cargo, Kast + D Inph and more we will finally get the taste we've been waiting for! Peace x

I had never seen Urthboy live before Friday night and I am fully impressed! The show was held at the Corner Hotel in Richmond. This venue is known for hosting quite a few mad Hip Hop shows so I thought it was fair to expect no less than an awesome time.
I rocked up half way through the support Class-A. Gotta love female MC's. I was blown away with her witty lyrics, mad beats and her fun party vibe beemed around the band room. Voted Best Female MC in the 2008 OzHipHop.com Awards, Class-A proudly represents her home town - BURN CITY STAND UP!!
She will be performing at Revolver next weekend (15th May to be exact) for the Fatty Phew EP Launch. http://www.moshtix.com.au/event.aspx?id=35782 <<< Click on the link to grab yourself a ticket. Don't miss out.
Huuuuuuuhhmmmmmmm, Huuuuuuuhhmmmmmmm, H-UHHH-MMM - Ladies and Gentlmen put your hands up for Mantra! Donning that awesome grandpa hat that only the man himself can pull of so well, bounced up on stage and the room was packed with sweaty hip hoppers. "I hereby stand" - who doesn't love that track? He showed us his outstanding freestyle skills and then pounced into the crowd for none other than a little surf. FANTASTIC!
Mantra left the crowd hyped up like crazy for Urthboy. He jumped on the stage with the lovely Jane Tyrrell and Elgusto and together they made my night whole. From the trio performing their cute dance combo's to Elgusto rippin' it up with "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)," Urthboy was left beeming with pride.
The track list was made up of songs like 'Shruggin,' 'Hell Song,' Ready to Go,' 'The Signal' and way more. 'We Get Around' sent the mosh pit into arm flailing, elbow hitting and kicking-whoever-is-in-my-dance zone mode. All in all, it was so so much fun!
Melbourne truely represented and i'm proud to say I was born and raised a Melburnian. The third leg of the Sneakquel Tour kicked off with a BANG!!
Ahh sorry people for my lame updating attempts. From now on, shows and events will be updated every Wednesday. Just waiting on the design for NHH to be up and ready.
What's on this weekend you say? Take a good below.
