Photobucket

Sydney's biggest hip hop artists Phatchance and Coptic Soldier finally join together once again for the long awaited 'Face Paint Event.' The duo have been in high demand since they last 'shocked' the crowd with their entertaining stage performance and ear dropping lyrics.
This event has such an amazing line up which includes Johnny Utah with DJ DNL, The Dyno-Mics, Blase and DJ Akouo. Obviously this event is not to be missed, so if you're in Sydney, head on down to The Factory on Friday 6th August.

Long weekend gig reviews

MUPH & PLUTONIC AT HIFI BAR

So last weekend I decided to hit up a few gigs. Since it was the long weekend I figured why not go crazy?
Friday night I ended up at the HIFI Bar to check out Muph & Plutonic. What a dope night it was! Mantra, Jess Harlen and Vida-Sunshyne were supports. The venue got packed out nicely too. I got a few flicks of Mantra and Vida-Sunshyne. By the time Muph & Plutonic jumped on stage my camera died so didn't manage to grab any of them.

RAP CITY AT THE ESPY

If you love hip hop then on Saturday night you would have been nowhere else but The Espy. There was such a mad line-up with dudes like DJ Premier, Masta Ace, Beatnuts, M-Phazes, Fluent Form, 1/6, Coptic Soldier and Phatchance just to name a few.
This gig was off the hook! I apologise to anybody who missed out coz it was amazing. Fluent Form and 1/6 killed it! In my opinion, 1/6 is one of the best Australian rappers out. Masta Ace, Dj Premier and Beatnuts were all outstanding. Too bad some were on at the same time but most people managed to see everyone play. Big ups to Coptic Soldier and Phatchance for their fantastic set. I only managed to grab some shots of CS, Phatchance, Fluent Form and 1/6... By the time the other artists came up on stage The Espy was hella packed!

SURREAL AT SYN BAR

So by Sunday night I was pretty ruined but managed to make my way down to Syn Bar to check Surreal ripping it up on the mic. The dude is a wicked MC.. The venue wasn't so packed but as soon as he jumped up on stage everyone was cramming to be up the front. Copies of his sampler were given away to the lucky crowd. After that amazing performance, I am positive his sampler launch will be craaaaeeeezzaaayyyy!!!

Ash Grunwald - Hot Mama Vibes

Have a read of the Hot Mama Vibes review I wrote for Beat Magazine.

Photobucket

Ash Grunwald

Album: Hot Mama Vibes
Label: Delta Groove/Shock
Genre: Blues/Electronic/Hip-Hop

Ash Grunwald brings to the streets his fifth studio album, Hot Mama Vibes. Recorded in two states, then fine-tuned by email and other digital ways, Hot Mama Vibes is a radical combination of Blues and Electronic with some Hip Hop thrown in there too. The three tracks ‘Walking,’ ‘Love Me’ and ‘Mind Playing Tricks’ were put together with Trials from the Hilltop Hoods. A fourth, ‘Parents,’ finds Trials bringing his whole Funkoars crew for a closing hip-hop face-off. All the other tracks range from a mellow, minimal blues vibe to amazing powerhouse stomping tracks.
You can really hear his love for junk percussion in quite a few tracks. Hence the earthy flavour of car doors struck with hammers and cymbals made from 44-gallon drums.

Hot Mama Vibes is the most primal concoction of elemental junkyard soul to stomp through your speakers this year.
